Firefly Watching
Another activity that must not be missed when you are at Awana Kijal Golf, Beach & Spa Resort is the firefly watching. You will be taken by boat on a river cruise to the Ibok River to be amazed by the mystical wonders of mother nature. Watch in amazement as hundreds of thousands of fire flies light up the river bank at the night from 8.00pm to midnight.
Natures beautiful creation, this harmless insect who is also known as the glowworm and lightning bug is actually a beetle. Most known firefly species are bioluminescent as adults. However, all known firefly larvae are bioluminescent, as are firefly eggs. Thus, the ability to glow as an adult insect is not characteristic of this group of beetles. Also not all bioluminescent beetles are fireflies. Related beetle families that have bioluminescent members include some click beetles (family Elateridae), phengodid beetles (family Phengodidae) and several other very small families.
